Current Beauty Favorites: December 2014

I’ve been wanting to do a ‘favorites’ type post for awhile just to give an update on any products I may have mentioned as a first impression or to let you know if I’ve changed my mind about something I wasn’t crazy about. I didn’t want to make this a monthly post because honestly, I just don’t want to commit. Especially if nothing major changes or I don’t have much worth mentioning I don’t want to just pick things because I have to. So here’s what I’ve been loving lately.

The Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow palette has quickly become my go-to bronzer/highlight duo. The bronzer is great for everyday and the highlight which I wasn’t crazy for in the beginning, has grown on me. I especially like it for an inner corner highlight. The bronze color is also great for contouring around your nose it’s just the right neutral tone that actually looks natural.

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting blush palette has also become a go-to product as of late, and surprisingly the last shade that I initially also didn’t like has become my favorite. Although it doesn’t show up as brightly on my skin as the other two shades, I find that it’s that perfect soft plum color that works great in the winter and goes well with almost every eye look.

Nars Audacious lipstick in Barbara along with the Rimmel lip liner in Innocent is my new nude lip pairing. I’m really enjoying the formula of the Audacious lipsticks, they are pigmented and apply nicely. My natural lipline is on the darker side so Innocent helps to combat that.

The Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara has become my number one all time favorite mascara. It’s volumizing, lengthening and has a pretty minimal smudge factor. I have back-ups of this, that’s how good it is.

And finally, the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream has replaced powder foundation for day to day coverage. It’s moisturizing, has medium coverage, doesn’t feel heavy or leave my skin greasy. And it just makes my skin look better, just like it’s name implies. It has a finish that’s not matte or dewy, it just looks natural. If your still looking for a BB/CC/tinted moisturizer, I highly recommend this one.

What have you been loving lately?

Winter wear for those ‘warmer’ days.

Mossimo for Target faux leather jacket, H&M V-neck button down, Hudson jeans, Sam Edelman ‘Peter’ booties, grey Mossimo for Target infinity scarf

It hit 50 degrees today, which constitutes ‘warmer’ weather for a New England winter. We went to celebrate my nephew’s first birthday today and it was so much fun! Ava had a great time and did so well, she has a hard time in large crowds sometimes, but today I was so proud of her. She hung out with grandma and grandpa for awhile, ate well, and wanted to walk around all over the place (with me holding her hand of course). Anyway, I wanted to share what I like to wear on days like these that aren’t so frigid.

I put away my down coat and threw on my faux leather jacket that I got from Target over a white button down and black jeans. I wore my flat Sam Edelman booties and threw on a grey scarf for a little warmth. Simple, not dressed up, but still put together.

My makeup leaned towards the cooler side all around, which I don’t normally do, but I really like how it came out. I’ve been obsessed with wearing Nars Audacious lipstick in Barbara with Rimmel lip liner in Innocent. Cooler toned nudes usually don’t look good on me, but this one works because it’s more of a browner nude. My left eyelid has been crazy lately, after I turned 30 I noticed the crease can change day to day. It seems like the skin is thinning in that area and it’s as puffy as it used to be. Ah, the joys of growing older.

I hope you all had as great of a day as we did! And of course I’ll share what Ava wore, too.

Cause one is never enough: More thoughts on the Nars Audacious Lipsticks.

I mentioned in my review of the Nars Virtual Domination palette that after trying Anita, I placed an order for two more of the Nars Audacious lipsticks. I wanted another everyday nude and couldn’t resist a red. So, Barbara and Rita came to keep Anita company.

Rita, Barbara, & Anita

Barbara is described as a ‘tan rose’ (in other words, a pinky nude) which I think is a pretty accurate description for it’s color, while Rita is described as a ‘scarlett’. It’s a nice mid-toned, warm red that has just the right amount of brightness for day or night. Both lipsticks are creamy and very pigmented. I did need to layer Barbara on a little more because my lips are already on the darker side. Because my actual lip line is darker than my lips I do prefer to use a lip liner with it. I used a lip brush with Rita for more precise application, but don’t feel the need to use lip liner unless I want to get some extra lasting power in. I’d describe the finish as semi-matte, and I would recommend doing some lip exfoliation if you’re a extra flakey in that department. But, if you have just a little dryness it’s not going to exaggerate it too much. I do like the finish on it’s own and it’s also very nice with a gloss layered over. They aren’t overly drying either. Both pretty long wearing as long as you aren’t eating and drinking a ton while it’s on, but even still Barbara hung in there surprisingly well after I downed a tall caramel latte.
All in all, I really like these and would recommend them. I’m thinking of picking up one more in a berry shade, but I want to look at them in store before making a decision.
