Gimme a V.

H&M V-neck sweatshirt

I got this H&M V-neck sweater a couple of weeks ago when I bought that black V-neck sweater I needed to fill a gap in my wardrobe. I got an alert on my H&M app that there were some deals going on and I think it was only $9.99! So it went straight into my basket. I love the bold double-striped V-neck and I knew it would easily fit into my wardrobe. It’s actually made from sweatshirt material, but I noticed there are two other sweaters on their website that look the same, but are knit. I like the more casual sweatshirt material, as well as the relaxed fit (no surprise there). The knit versions are a bit more fitted and shorter in length. I got mine in a medium and I think it’s perfect.

I decided to keep with the black and white look and wore my black Hudson jeans. To finish it off, I wore my Nike sneakers and Coach tote. I actually got a similar pair of sneakers for Ava, but they’re still too big, but I can’t wait until we can both wear them! The purse was actually a gift from my brother on Christmas two years ago. I realized I hadn’t pulled it out until now! I had Ava a couple weeks before the holiday and I was relegated to a diaper bag (still am for the most part), so I never really had a chance to enjoy it. I’m in the middle of a closet clean-out and I kind of re-discovered it. I think it will actually be a good transition bag when Ava is a little older and I don’t have to carry around as many items I’m worried will spill into my purse. It’s roomy enough to carry any of her things and mine, and I love that it has the crossbody strap so I can have my hands free if needed. I checked the website and of course it’s not there anymore, but they do have a lot of other cute totes that are similar.

The deep V of this sweater is so bold, it doesn’t need any jewelry. Actually, I fell asleep with my necklace and earrings on, so I just kept them on! And I was in the middle of doing a fishtail braid when Ava woke up, so I just tied it off a bit short (#momproblems).

Any new additions to your wardrobe that you’ve been loving?

Another winter look with a summer dress.

Zara jacket, H&M turtleneck and tank dress, black tights from Target, Jeffrey Campbell Hanger booties, Chanel WOC

Today we took the little one out to lunch, there’s a restaurant in our area that has the best focaccia that they serve with olive oil and Parmesan cheese…it’s amazing. And I actually think we hadn’t been back since having Ava! So we went to indulge in some carby goodness as a family (okay just me and the hubs, Ava is still on a bread strike unless it’s a grilled cheese). I threw on some black tights intending to wear a sweater dress, but I realized it was still dirty! So plan B. I’ve talked about this cotton trapeze halter style dress I got an H&M last summer, I pulled it out again to layer under a grey knit turtleneck sweater. I actually don’t have a ton of skirts in my wardrobe so being able to make my dresses work double duty is nice. I left my North Face in the closet since it wasn’t as cold as last week (34 degrees, ha!) and wore my green Zara jacket. Lastly, I finished the look with my Jeffrey Campbell Hanger booties and my Chanel WOC.

On a side note, I let Ava hold the L’Oreal Infallible 2-Step Lipstick I was wearing because she was starting to get antsy waiting for our food and I didn’t want to keep loading her up with snacks before lunch. She proceeded to throw it on the ground as soon as some food showed up and it rolled away under a booth. We managed to recover most of it, the cover of the balm fell off and there was dust all over it. There was no way I was putting it on my lips after that so I tossed it. Since we were near Target my husband suggested we stop and get a new one, I guess my disappointment showed on my face. And of course, this happened.

I know! I wasn’t supposed to buy anymore makeup for awhile, but again I HAVE NO SELF-CONTROL. I’m actually considering giving up buying makeup for Lent, but I’m afraid I’ll give in! I really do have a problem. My husband laughed when he saw me throw three more lipsticks in the cart, he said I
must have gotten Ava to lose the first one just so I could buy three others!

And I had to throw this one in with Ava sharing her OOTD too:

Always getting in on the action 🙂

She was the star of the show at lunch today, all the waitresses were fawning over her. She still has stranger anxiety and didn’t want to wave back, but I’m happy she didn’t burst into tears like the last time we went shopping and a nice woman tried to play peek-a-boo with her (I don’t know who was more traumatized, Ava or the lady)!

Happy Friday everyone!

Turning a spring dress into winter wear.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/174/76608865/files/2014/12/img_7553.jpgI got this sleeveless drop waist dress at H&M last spring/summer and only got to wear it once before it would no longer accommodate my pregnant belly. We went to celebrate a baptism today so I wanted to wear a dress, but didn’t really have one that would work for the occasion. Until I spotted this in my closet and realized I could warm it up with a simple crew neck sweater. Paired with grey tights and black knee high boots and I had my outfit. I’m a total jeans + T-shirt girl, so it’s been nice to switch it up a bit lately.

I added a necklace for a little bit of sparkle and my rhinestone bar earrings that I’ve been wearing nonstop.

My makeup was the usual, except I dug out my Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed and switched to Nars Anita Audacious lipstick with Rimmel Eastend Snob.

We had a great time at the party today, Ava again was on her best behavior even though she was up way past her naptime. Hope everyone ended their weekend on a high note!

Winter wear for those ‘warmer’ days.

Mossimo for Target faux leather jacket, H&M V-neck button down, Hudson jeans, Sam Edelman ‘Peter’ booties, grey Mossimo for Target infinity scarf

It hit 50 degrees today, which constitutes ‘warmer’ weather for a New England winter. We went to celebrate my nephew’s first birthday today and it was so much fun! Ava had a great time and did so well, she has a hard time in large crowds sometimes, but today I was so proud of her. She hung out with grandma and grandpa for awhile, ate well, and wanted to walk around all over the place (with me holding her hand of course). Anyway, I wanted to share what I like to wear on days like these that aren’t so frigid.

I put away my down coat and threw on my faux leather jacket that I got from Target over a white button down and black jeans. I wore my flat Sam Edelman booties and threw on a grey scarf for a little warmth. Simple, not dressed up, but still put together.

My makeup leaned towards the cooler side all around, which I don’t normally do, but I really like how it came out. I’ve been obsessed with wearing Nars Audacious lipstick in Barbara with Rimmel lip liner in Innocent. Cooler toned nudes usually don’t look good on me, but this one works because it’s more of a browner nude. My left eyelid has been crazy lately, after I turned 30 I noticed the crease can change day to day. It seems like the skin is thinning in that area and it’s as puffy as it used to be. Ah, the joys of growing older.

I hope you all had as great of a day as we did! And of course I’ll share what Ava wore, too.

Product rave: It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50 (and a quick OOTD)

I finally got a chance to stop by Ulta to pick up the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50 a couple of weeks ago, and let me just tell you, I’m so glad I did. Before I get into my thoughts on the product, here are the claims:

  • improves skin texture, brightness and increases skin hydration
  • provides full coverage that won’t crease and gives your skin a healthy glow
  • paraben-free, physical sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection & SPF 50
  • anti-aging hydrating formula that provides long-term brightening and color-correcting benefits

I have to say, this stuff is pretty amazing. I’ve been reaching for it on a daily basis, except for when I use my MUFE HD Foundation on special occasions or photos. The SPF on this is pretty high, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you know you’ll be having your picture taken. I’ve tried it multiple ways, without moisturizer or primer and with both, and it always looks good. The product has a nice consistency, just like a lotion and it doesn’t leave me feeling greasy after initial application or at the end of the day. If you’re into a matte finish this might not be for you, but it’s not super dewy either. I do like to set it with powder in my T-zone, but I don’t feel the need around the rest of my face. The coverage is actually pretty close to full, but I do need to spot conceal certain areas of hyperpigmentation from acne scarring. I still get a little oily around my nose by the end of the day, but nothing worse than any of my other foundations. I actually prefer this to my Jouer Matte Moisture Tint and will probably be putting that more to use once summer hits. This CC cream provides just the perfect mix of coverage and hydration to my skin in these winter months. I also love that it has a pump (always a bonus). And it doesn’t break me out (also a bonus).

In shade medium.

I use my Real Techniques foundation brush to apply this, one pump is all I need. I dot it onto my skin to prevent the brush from absorbing too much product. Like I said before, I still do in with my CDP concealer afterwards, but pretty minimally. It’s only been two weeks, so I’m not sure that this has really provided any brightening effects to my skin (I attribute most of that to my Ole Henriksen Truth Serum), but my skin has been clear, the overall texture is good, and I don’t feel dry during the day.

L to R: bare face, after application without concealer, full face

We had a little family trip to the mall yesterday and stopped into H&M. Just wanted to share they have tons of great basic slouchy tops on sale right now! I got this grey one and a black one in another style, each for just $7. Can’t beat it! I love H&M basic tops, they always have options in a great relaxed fit. I tend to buy them in either a medium or large just in case of shrinkage in the wash. I threw a slouchy sweater on top to keep me warm, it’s from Forever 21 if you’re curious.

Slouchy tops are my uniform.

I threw on this Stella & Dot layered chain necklace and some spike earring with rhinestones to accessorize a bit.

Layered chain necklace & spike earrings.

So to sum this up, go to Ulta as soon as you can to pick up the It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50. It’s amazing. While you’re at it, check out the sales racks at H&M. 🙂

Dressing for the holidays: Thanksgiving

H&M sweater, Hudson jeans, Chanel quilted ballet flats

I thought I’d share my Thanksgiving outfit, even though the day has passed it might still serve as some inspiration as more holiday gatherings approach. I tend to gravitate towards more relaxed looks and the holidays are no exception. I guess this is my version of ‘dressy casual’. We usually split our time between my family and my husband’s family (we actually went to my mom’s, my sister-in-laws, and my aunt’s houses this year), so it’s basically a Thanksgiving feast from noon til night. I always like to wear something comfortable and not too restrictive since there’s a lot of lounging around and eating going on. I decided on this H&M sweater I got a couple of month ago that has faux leather quilted detailing at the shoulders that dress it up a little. The sweater is also soft, lightweight and easy to move around in while chasing around my baby. I also wore my favorite black Hudson jeans that are super stretchy and practically like wearing leggings. And lastly, my dark grey Chanel flats. These were definitely an investment, but I know I’ll wear them forever.

I kept the jewelry pretty minimal, just my Jewelmint necklaces & some flower stud earrings from Francesca’s that go easily with everything.

MUFE HD Foundation in 123 Desert

I kept my makeup pretty standard, but I did use my favorite foundation, the Makeup Forever HD. I use my Beauty Blender to apply it and it just gives the most flawless finish. I still have to use concealer for blemishes, but it’s more of a medium coverage foundation anyway.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!

First impression: Jouer Matte Moisture Tint

Jouer Matte Moisture Tint

I mentioned in a previous post that I was looking for a good tinted moisturizer as my skin is getting a little drier overall with the change in weather and in my skin routine. I typically use powder foundation on a daily basis, I don’t really like the feeling of using liquid foundation all the time and my skin broke out when I’ve done it in the past. I’d heard good reviews about the Jouer Matte Moisture Tint and figured I’d give it a try. This product comes in five shades, I chose ‘nude’ which is for light to medium complexions. I was worried ‘chamomile’ (for medium complexions) might be a tad too dark. Unfortunately, this product isn’t carried in any stores around me (that I know of), so I took a chance ordering online. It is touted to even out imperfections and give a ‘velvety smooth finish’. It also has SPF 15, which I like for everyday.

L: bare skin, M: after application, R: full face

I used my Sigma round kabuki brush to apply this. You don’t need a ton of product, maybe a little more than a size of a pea covered my entire face. I did add a small amount more in my cheek area to cover my red areas and acne scarring. The shade definitely looked too light on initial application, but did improve with wear. It also obviously isn’t meant to provide full coverage so my acne scars were still visible. That doesn’t bother me though, I don’t make a huge effort to cover them up fully on a daily basis. It did even out my skin tone nicely. I did not feel the need to powder after application, I think the finish is exactly as it describes. After applying bronzer and the rest of my makeup I felt like the overall color was fine.
I can’t say I’m in love with this yet, but it’s only my first time using it. I do like it and will continue to test it out. I’ll update with my final thoughts in another post.
And a quick OOTD.

Mossimo sweater, H&M V-neck, Mossimo ‘jeggings’, Sam Edelman ‘Peter’ booties

Hope you all are having a great start to the weekend!

Falling for faux.

Leather, that is.

Mossimo Faux Leather Jacket

So I mentioned in my last post that I was going to share a couple of items I got at Target, but I’m having buyer’s remorse about one of them so I may end up returning it. The other item I’m loving and will definitely be keeping. I originally saw MakeupbyTiffanyD on YouTube talk about this faux leather jacket and I thought it was cute, but I didn’t really need it. So when I happened upon it while browsing around, it was the only one left and it was in my size. Of course, I took that as a sign to try it on. And of course, I had to have it. It’s really comfortable because of the black knitted paneling on the inner sleeves and sides of the jacket. Despite being ‘faux leather’, it doesn’t look cheap and I think it will hold up well. I have a leather moto jacket from Zara that I think I got last year that I love, but it’s pretty fitted and I can’t wear anything much thicker than a thin sweater under it. This jacket I can put on heavier sweaters and it would work because the sleeves have more give from the paneling.

Mossimo faux leather jacket, J. Crew plaid shirt, H&M grey tank, AG jeans, Jeffrey Cambell ‘Hanger’ boots

I layered it over a grey tank and plaid shirt and jeans, as usual. And I like how this jeweled necklace contrasted with the casualness (is that a word?) of the shirt and tank. I have no idea who makes this necklace, it was gifted from a friend.

Jeweled Necklace by ?

The jacket is still available online and may be in your local Target store, so if you’re in the market for something like this I’d check it out quickly before it’s gone!

Wearing lately: Fall Fluorescence

H&M sweater, Siwy jeans, Zara slip-ons

The sun has finally started shining again and I thought this sweater would be appropriate for today’s mommy date outfit. I like brights in any season, not just the spring and summer. I actually bought this sweater when I was pregnant, I tried to buy as much ‘non-maternity’ maternity wear so that I could still enjoy it after she was born. I wore this with a lot with black leggings in those days. But now that I can wear my jeans again, I’m pairing it with those. I also find that wearing jeans helps to keep my eating habits in check-when they start getting tighter, I’m probably over indulging.

Jewelmint gold bar necklace & Forever 21 rhinestone necklace

I used to think that big, bold necklaces could only be worn at night or if I was more dressed up, but that has changed recently. Maybe because I don’t really go out much at night anymore and I miss wearing a lot of my jewelry. I really like how a statement necklace adds to a more casual outfit, making it a little more fun. I wear my gold bar necklace every day (because I never take it off) and I actually liked combination of them together.

Zara slip-ons

I’d been on the hunt for a new pair of flats that are easy to put on and comfortable. I have a pair of gray Tom’s, but I wanted something sturdier. I was thinking of getting the Steve Madden Ecentric slip-on sneakers in leopard print, but I saw these on the Zara website and couldn’t resist them. I’m a sucker for anything gray, I’m not sure why. I also liked the black leather detailing that contrasts with the light gray. I tried to find these on the Zara website, but they’re already gone (seriously, if you ever like something from Zara, just buy it because if you wait too long it will be sold out). I’m still thinking about the SM slip-ons because to me, leopard is a neutral, but I’ve been completely satisfied with these as of late.

I’m also testing out a new makeup product, it’s only been a couple of weeks, but I have to say I’m in love. I want to try it a few more times before I share it and give a proper review.

Anyway, I hope you all are having a great weekend so far!
