Fall Lipstick Favorites

In an effort to continue to ‘no-buy’ makeup I don’t need, I decided to comb through my lipsticks for some fall favorite lipsticks. I had a minor surgery last month after which I wasn’t allowed to wear any for awhile (I’m sure my surgeon noticed the horror on my face when he said “no lipstick”), so I’m pretty happy to be able to wear it again. All my picks are from the drugstore which I think is a nice bonus-since I still tend to wear nudes most often I just don’t tend to invest in higher end colors that are darker. Although I do love them, it’s so hard to actually finish a tube. Anyway, here’s what I got.

Maybelline Color Sensational Matte Lipstick in Touch of Spice. This is a great daytime fall color that isn’t too bold. I actually feel like I’ll be wearing this one pretty often! It’s kind of a reddish, rusty nude shade with a matte finish. It’s also not super drying which I love.

Wet n Wild Megalast Lip Color in 908C. I love a good plum/berry pink shade in the fall, and this one from Wet n Wild fits the bill. I wish they put the names and numbering on the packaging (and that the lipstick descended all the way into the tube), but otherwise I love this lipstick. It has a semi-matte finish and I find the lasting power of these is actually pretty good.

Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Mauvy Night. Despite its name, this is another fall color that I like during the day because it’s not too ‘in your face’. This is the color that comes to mind when I think of a mauve lipstick, there seem to be so many variations of one color!

Revlon Super Lustrous Creme Lipstick in Black Cherry. The name of this lipstick is so spot on. It also reminds me of deep red wine. You can wear it sheer or built up, but either way it looks amazing during the colder months of the year.

Wearing Touch of Spice.

What are your lipstick fall faves? Bonus points for any drugstore picks!

P.S. Again, I’m late with the upload time. I’m actually really sorry because I feel like I made a commitment to do something and I’m not sticking to it very well. Even if it’s not the end of the world that this isn’t posted at 9 AM, I still feel guilty. So again for the bazillionth time, I’m making a change. I will continue with Sunday and/or Wednesday posts, but I’m not going to stick to a specific time. I just hate feeling like I’m ‘late’ and I also don’t want to feel like I have to wait until the next posting day if I am late. Again, sorry for changing things up yet again. Ok, done.

Have a great rest of the week!

The Lipstick Tag

I was tagged by Joy of Styled with Joy to do this tag, and a few others (I swear by the end of the year(ish) I’ll have done them all!), and it’s definitely a fun one. If you’re in any way curious about my lipstick life, keep reading. ūüôā

The Rules

TAG 3 bloggers to answer these same questions.

Those bloggers will TAG 3 more bloggers of their choice with the same questions & rules.

No tag backs.

The Questions

1. How many lipsticks do you own? 68

2. What was your first ever lipstick? I don’t remember the actual brand or name, but it was a dark, maroon type color I got in middle school because that’s what all the ‘cool’ girls would wear. And I don’t think I wore it more than twice because my mom was not having it and I was never confident enough to really get into it.

3. What is your most worn lipstick? Maybelline’s Warm Me Up

4. What is your favorite brand for lipsticks? Probably MAC, I think the overall quality and color selection is great and the price isn’t so extraordinate to make me feel guilty.

5. What is your favorite finish? A matte finish is my favorite, I love the lasting power and I can always add a gloss if I feel like it’s looking a little flat.

6. What is the last lipstick you bought? MAC’s Vegas Volt.

7. How many lip products do you currently have in your bag? Okay this is just bad and I have no excuse but sheer laziness. I have 10. Don’t judge. I tend to have my purse downstairs and I take whatever I’m using that day and bring it down with me as I’m leaving. The rest hasn’t made its way back up yet.

8. What lipstick do you use to rock a red lip? MAC Ruby Woo or Stila Beso.

9. How do you store your lipsticks? Also embarrassing.

Meh. I really need do a purge.

10. What lip products are you currently lusting over? I’m dying to get a Tom Ford lipstick, but ugh, the price tag!

I’m so late on this I’m pretty sure everyone reading has been tagged already! But, if you haven’t and would like to do this one, you’re it!

Worth the hype?: MAC Satin Lipstick in Brave

Every time I browse through Pinterest, I see pins of ‘Kylie Jenner lips’. Her pout has become quite the phenomenon and I wasn’t really into the hype. But, I kept seeing this one pin of MAC Brave lipstick + Soar¬†being her combo of choice (I’ve also read that Velvet Teddy & Twig are the lipsticks and Whirl is the lip liner, really who knows?). I was really just attracted to Brave because it looks like one of those rosy pink nudes that I love. Every time I’d see the pin, I’d stop and stare at Brave. When I went to the MAC store two weeks ago I looked at it and decided yes, I can tell I’m going to love it, I didn’t even bother to¬†swatch it¬†and bought it.

MAC Satin Lipstick in Brave

Brave is a definite ‘MLBB’ coor¬†and glides on super smooth. It has a satin finish and looks just beautiful on the lips. The pigmentation is also good. It’s one of those everyday colors that I don’t even have to think about, it’s just so pretty. A lip liner will definitely extend it’s lasting power (about 3 hours on it’s own), but it also an easy color to touch up with, no mirror required.

After swatching it and putting it on, I realized I had something similar to it, but wasn’t sure what. I started swatching some other lipsticks next to it for comparison. Then I figured out why I like it so much. My favorite lipstick, Maybelline’s Warm Me Up, is pretty close dupe for Brave!

Top swatches: Maybelline Warm Me Up, Nars Anita, MAC Brave, Rimmel by Kate 14; Bottom swatches: Warm Me Up & Brave

Brave is more pigmented than Warm Me Up, but they look quite similar. Maybe Brave is slightly rosier, but if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative, try Warm Me Up.

Brave is definitely giving Velvet Teddy some strong competition as my favorite MAC lipstick! I recommend it if you’re looking for a great pinky nude. So yes, this one is worth the hype, even if you’re not looking for the ‘Kylie’ lip look.
