Quick Spring Makeup

Now that Ava is on a one nap schedule, some mornings I end up having her sitting at my feet while I get ready for the day. Some days she’s good at keeping her self busy (read: pulling everything out of my IKEA shelves) and others she’s whining at my feet. Some days I just want to make things quick, I just slap on some concealer and powder foundation without too much fuss before I start putting some color back into my face. This particular day I didn’t even want to bother with brushes, I used items I could just use my fingers to apply. Sometimes it just feels faster skipping the brushes and just using your hands!

On my lids I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in French Fries, applying it straight from the pencil then blending it at the edges with my fingers. French Fries is an easy bronze shade that I love. I didn’t even bother with a brow highlight or crease shade. I used another cream product on my cheeks, the Stila convertible color in Peony, a pinky nude. It’s surprisingly easy to apply with your fingers and blends well without looking patchy. And just for fun on my lips, I layered a Wet n Wild Megalast Lipstick in Mauve Outta Here over the Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in Enchantment. It’s a nice bright fuschia, but not too crazy. If you’re wary of bright lip colors I’d definitely recommend this one to start, plus you can’t beat the almost $2 price point. The combination of these two together really helped the staying power, even through lunch. And since the rest of my makeup was so simple, I was just in the mood for a bright lip. I’m actually really into this for spring and summer and I’ll probably be reaching for this duo often.

What are your favorite quick makeup products? I’d love to know!

Also, we leave tomorrow morning for vacation :), but I do have posts scheduled for the week. I won’t be able to read, comment or respond much, but you know, it’s fam time. I’ll definitely be sharing some photos and experiences from the trip when we return! And please pray for me, mainly that Ava is a happy camper for the flight and that I am not traumatized from flying from with a toddler.

Spring smokey eyes & a pink pout

I’ve been wanting to do a purple smokey eye with the Tartelette palette (review here) since I picked it up as I’m really trying to use more color in my makeup lately. The middle section of the palette isn’t one I use often and the plummy shades are really beautiful, just not ones I reach for on a daily basis.

I actually used one of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bulletproof Beige as a base because I wanted to add a little shimmer into the look, but it actually made the lighter purple, Bestfriend, harder to blend. I used Bestfriend all over the lid then used a fluffy crease brush around the edges to soften them up. I used Bombshell, the eggplant shade, just along my upper lash line to darken up the look and to line the lower lash line. I actually used the warmer shades in the top row of the palette, Free Spirit on my brow bone and Force of Nature as a transition shade (for swatches see here). I used a navy liner to tightline my upper lash line and outer third of my lower lash line to keep my eyes from looking too closed off. I used the highlight shade from the Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow Palette on the inner third of my lower lash line. I also added those Kiss Trio Lashes on the outer half of my lash line. When I do a smokey eye with darkness all over the lid, my lashes tend to get lost, so adding a few falsies helps to bring them back into focus. I stuck with pale pink blush from the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Blissful and the Maybelline Color Sensational Rebel Bloom Lipstick in Blushing Bud. The lipstick is actually a lot brighter looking than what’s shown in the pictures.

This is a fun alternative to the usual black or brown smokey eye in the spring. Especially for the color-phobes like myself. I’m also delving more into my pink lipsticks instead of just the pinky nudes.

How are you mixing things up for spring?

In case anyone noticed in these pictures, yes, I did cut my hair! Nothing super short, I can still pull it back easily. The color is slightly lighter as well, I didn’t ask for it, but I think it just happened because she still has to process the rest of my hair even when I’m just doing the roots. I’m really happy with it and it’s so much lighter and easier to take care of now. Is anyone else getting a cut for the spring and summer?

Spring tease.

It hit 40 degrees where I am and it again gave me hopes of an early spring. I mentioned that I’ve been obsessed with my NYX French Kiss + Vanilla Cream Pie pink lip combo and I let the rest of my makeup follow suit.

Swatches L to R: Dior Lip Contour in 223 Sparkling Beige, NYX High Voltage Lipstick in French Kiss, NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie, Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Dollface, Stila Nouveau Natural Palette eye shadows in Instinct & Desire

To make the lip look last, I used the Dior Contour Lip Liner Pencil in 223 Sparkling Beige before applying the NYX High Voltage Lipstick in French Kiss and the Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie. It’s a beautiful nude pink with a bit of shimmer and this one has sentimental value to me because it’s what my makeup artist used on my lips for my wedding. They don’t even sell this shade anymore, so I don’t use this often because I want to keep it for as long as possible. I highly recommend the Dior lipliners in general because they stay put like no other. It was even hard to wipe the swatch off my arm with a baby wipe after I took this photo. I used the Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 HR Blush in Dollface on my cheeks, it’s seriously one of the prettiest pinks I own. I used the pale pink/lavender eyeshadows from the Stila Nouveau Natural Palette, Instinct & Desire, for my lids.

I’m not usually this into pink, although I do love the color. I’m hoping that it’s because spring really is in the air. I even threw on a lavender sheer knit sweater today to max out on the spring look.

Apparently it’s supposed to hit 50 degrees this week, let’s see how long it stays that way!

More snow means more spring makeup looks. (And an intro to the fourth member of our fam!)

The snow that has been never-ending got it’s fourth (fifth? I’m losing count!) wind over the weekend and we got a Nor’easter. Sigh. Wishful thinking has taken over and I decided to go for spring makeup look for the day.

Swatched from L to R: Tarte Exposed blush, Maybelline Pink Me Up lipstick, NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie, Stila Nouveau Natural eye shadows in dune, instinct, desire, understanding, & java

The Stila Nouveau Natural Palette has a shimmer and a matte shade that are along the light lavender/pink end of the spectrum so I decided to incorporate them into my eyes for the day. I used the matte shade (desire) all over my lid and the shimmer (instinct) just towards the inner 1/3 of my lids to brighten them up a bit. I used the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk as a base to really let the color show on my lids. I used dune as my brow highlight, understanding in my crease, and java in the outer V and lower lash line. I’m really in love with the palette, I haven’t reached for anything else since picking it up. I used the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Exposed on my cheeks. For my lips I used the Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Pink Me Up and the NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Cream Pie on Top.

FOTD.

I seriously can’t wait for spring at this point. The snow never really bothered me this much until now. Actually, not true. When I was working I was considered ‘essential personnel’, meaning I had to drive in blizzard conditions and dig out my car at the break of dawn to get to work while all my friends cozied up in their PJs to work from home.

I haven’t shared this with you guys yet because he’s been living with my parents for the past year, but we have a dog! His name is Benji. 😀

Meet Benji!

When we moved into our house from my parents, my mom suggested we leave Benji there until we settled in. And with Ava being very high needs in the beginning, it took a long time to settle in. My mom kept him and I began to wonder if he was ever coming back, my dad works nights and with my little sister at college I think she really enjoyed his company. I never pushed the issue, I figured she would eventually grow tired of him (with a face like that I don’t know what I was thinking!). But since they went home to the Philippines for three weeks, he came home to us! Okay, I’m really not sure if she’s going to want him back because it wasn’t even 30 minutes after my husband picked him up and my mom was already calling and asking about him! I’m just going to see what happens when they get back from vacation, but I’ve really missed him and I’m so happy to have him back! Pets are really like your children, he’s probably even more spoiled than Ava! Good thing Ava sleeps in her crib because it would be quite crowded with all four of us. Even if it’s short lived, if my mom really wants to keep him I can’t say no, especially if she’s lonely without him. I get to see him often enough between her bringing him here and me going there, but it’s never quite the same. He’s the sweetest thing, I really can’t blame her!
