Shop My Stash: Urban Decay Naked 2

I was browsing Pinterest and kept seeing eye tutorials using the Naked palettes, inspiring me to take out one of my own. I chose the Naked 2 because it’s more of a ‘one stop shop’ palette for me than the original because of the matte cream shade I use as a highlight. My only real gripe about the first is that the all the lighter shades have some shimmer and I’m just more of a matte brow bone girl.

I definitely prefer the packaging of the Naked 2 because it’s metal and doesn’t get so dirty and it closes more securely. It also has a mirror spanning the entire cover. It just feels sturdier than the first. It has a nice variety of cooler toned neutral shadows that work well together and have great pigmentation. I love that it has a matte cream shade and a matte black. The shadows apply smoothly and blend well. You can get some fall out during application, with the glitter shades and darker colors, so definitely be careful if you do your base makeup first.

The makeup look is nothing new, just what I usually do for more of a night out look. Chopper is one of my favorite shadows in the palette, it’s a nice shimmery copper shade with tiny glitter particles that is beautiful on the lid. I used the matte cream shade, Foxy, on my brow bone and Tease (a cool toned taupey brown) in my crease. To deepen the outer V and crease, I used Snakebite (dark brown shimmer) and a little bit of Blackout (matte black). I also used the darker shades on my lower lash line. For my inner corner highlight, I used Bootycall (pale champagne shimmer).

I still haven’t made the plunge into the Naked 3 because I was starting to feel like Urban Decay was going milk the series for all it’s worth and never stop releasing new ones. But after seeing the Naked Vault, which includes all the Nakeds (blush, lip colors, Basics), I’m thinking they might be done. I probably won’t get it anytime soon because I’m not sure that the shadows are ‘must-haves’, I’ve never even browsed it at the store because UD was just starting to annoy me with the non-stop Nakeds. But since it’s (probably) the last one, it would be kind of nice to have all three. For those of you who have the Naked 3, is it worth it?

Shop my stash: Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette

Joy from Styled with Joy inspired me to whip out my Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette after a long hiatus. I originally picked this up because of the rave reviews and to use as a travel palette with all the essentials for simple eye looks. Urban Decay got it right naming it ‘Naked Basics’, it really has all the essential neutral shades for day or night.

The packaging is small and thin, making it ideal for throwing in your purse if you like to touch up your eye shadow or for travel. The cover has a kind of ‘rubbery’ feel to it that I find tends to pick up shadow residue easily, just FYI if that kind of thing bothers you. There is a mirror that spans the area of the cover and the names of each shadow are printed under each pan.

Venus is the only non-matte shade in the palette, it’s a very pale champagne satin finish that works well as an inner corner highlight. Foxy is a matte pale yellow that I love as a brow highlight. Walk of Shame is a pale nude, it reminds me of putty, that I love as a lid color. Naked 2 is a taupe brown transition shade and Faint is a nice warm brown, great for adding depth to the crease or outer V. Crave is a matte black that I like to use as liner or for some drama in a smokey eye. All of the shadows have great pigmentation and are quite creamy in consistency, except I find Foxy to be a bit dry and Crave to be a powdery. If you’re using Crave, I’d either do the eye first before your base or use a tissue to cover your undereyes area because of the fall out.

This palette is probably the only one I own where I typically tend to use every single color when I do my eyes and I don’t really need to pull from other palettes to complete the look. I’m glad I pulled it out again because I forgot how good it is!

Do you have the Naked Basics? What’s your favorite way to use it?

Daytime drama

My daytime makeup is usually pretty basic, just some liner, a little eyeshadow and a few coats of mascara. I tend to use my Naked palettes and some MAC shadows because they’re just so easy for everyday looks. I’ve been trying to show some love to all the other neglected makeup in my stash so today I decided to use my Chanel Illusion D’Ombre in Illusiore and go from there. It’s a gorgeous dark purple cream shadow I used as a base on my lids. Then I ended up layering the Chanel single shadow in Fauve over it. I went to the Naked 2 palette to finish up the eye look (Tease in the crease, Busted in the outer V, Bootycall on the inner corner, & Foxy as a brow highlight). I did my usual KVD liquid liner in Trooper and a Clinique point perk mini mascara that I’m actually starting to love. I used the Tarte Amazonian Clay blush in Exposed and one of the Rimmel by Kate Moss lipsticks in number 08.

Top from L to R: Chanel cream shadow in Illusoire, Chanel single shadow in Fauve, Tarte blush in Exposed, Rimmel Kate lipstick in 08; Bottom from L to R: Foxy, Bootycall, Tease, Busted (all from Naked 2 Palette)

For me this is a pretty heavy eye look for the daytime, but sometimes when I’m doing my makeup it just happens. If I were going out for the night I’d probably add some false lashes and be done.

I really love the Chanel cream eyeshadows, I’ve had this one for maybe 2 years and it hasn’t dried out at all. I have some of the Maybelline cream shadows from last year and some of them have started to pull away from the sides of the container. I think I want to get another in a more neutral color, but there are a few other things I’ve had my eye on so it will have to wait.

Hope you all are having a great day!
